An antique 1738 engraved portrait of James Ussher (1581–1656), Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, celebrated scholar and chronologist. Shown in clerical dress within an ornate cartouche, the portrait is surrounded by books, mitre, and allegorical figures of learning. Engraved by George Vertue after the original painting, from the collection of General Tyrrel at Shotover in Oxfordshire.
