Antique 1742 Engraving Portrait of Thomas Otway, English Dramatist

An antique 1742 engraved portrait of Thomas Otway (1652–1685), the noted English dramatist and poet of the Restoration era. Remembered for his tragic plays Venice Preserved and The Orphan, Otway is here depicted in a thoughtful pose within an ornate oval cartouche. The design includes theatrical motifs such as a laurel branch and tragic mask.
