An impressive and finely detailed neoclassical engraving of Epaminondas, the celebrated Theban general and statesman, known for his military innovations and leadership at the Battle of Leuctra. Published in London on November 1st, 1806 by J. Wilkes and engraved by J. Chapman, this portrait powerfully embodies the noble martial spirit of Classical Greece.
Epaminondas is shown in profile, wearing ornate armor and a plumed helmet with a decorative roundel. His expression is calm yet focused. The lower cartouche features a striking still life with two Corinthian helmets crossed by a spear—symbols of honor, strategy, and sacrifice.
Renowned in ancient history as the liberator of Thebes and reformer of military tactics, Epaminondas reshaped Greek warfare and challenged Spartan supremacy.
