An elegant and historically rich 1807 engraving of Euric, King of the Visigoths, published in London by J. Wilkes. Euric was one of the most powerful Gothic rulers of the late 5th century, known for consolidating Visigothic control over large parts of Gaul and Hispania.
Engraved by J. Chapman, this neoclassical portrait presents Euric in regal Gothic armor, wearing an elaborately crowned helmet adorned with fleur-de-lis and Christian iconography, symbolizing the merging of Gothic power with Roman imperial traditions. Below the oval portrait is a classical architectural vignette featuring a vaulted hall or throne room, emphasizing Euric’s royal stature and kingdom.
