An antique 18th-century engraving portrait of Catherine Howard (c.1523–1542), the tragic fifth wife of King Henry VIII of England. Queen consort from 1540 to 1542, Catherine was a cousin of Anne Boleyn and a member of the powerful Howard family. Her marriage to Henry VIII ended abruptly when she was executed for alleged adultery, sealing her fate as one of Tudor England’s most ill-fated queens.
This engraving, after an original portrait, presents Catherine within an oval medallion, richly attired in fur-lined robes and jeweled headdress. Below, the inscription names her and includes a French verse reflecting on her brief life and tragic destiny.
A compelling and historically significant portrait, ideal for collectors of Tudor history, English queens, and antique engravings.
