Description:
An exceptional antique engraving of the iconic Hercules Farnese (Hercules Farnesianus), based on the monumental ancient Roman statue attributed to Glykon of Athens, after a lost original by Lysippos. This powerful image of Hercules shows the hero leaning on his club, draped with the lion’s skin, his muscular form captured in exquisite neoclassical detail. Set within a grand architectural backdrop of columns and arches, this print reflects Renaissance and Baroque admiration for classical antiquity.
The pedestal is inscribed “HERCULES PARMESIANVS,” and the engraving bears the name of the engraver and publisher in Latin.
A fine piece for collectors of classical art, antique engravings, or mythological imagery.
