Description:

A fine 18th century engraving titled La Sainte Famille de Jésus Christ, engraved by Jacobus Frey (1681–1725) after a painting by Raphael (1483–1520). The original work, noted in the inscription, belonged to the French royal collection.

The composition shows the Virgin Mary with the infant Christ and St. John the Baptist, attended by Joseph and other figures, while an angel crowns Mary with flowers. Raphael’s balanced harmony and devotional warmth are beautifully translated into Frey’s meticulous line work.
