Description:
Powerful antique hand-coloured engraving of Galba Caesar (3 BC – AD 69), Roman general and Emperor of Rome for a brief but pivotal period during the chaotic Year of the Four Emperors in AD 69. Though his reign lasted only seven months, Galba’s legacy as the first emperor following Nero’s death marks him as a significant transitional figure in Roman imperial history.
Engraved in 1826 for the Encyclopaedia Londinensis, this classical profile portrait presents Galba in traditional Roman armour with a laurel wreath crown and a striking Medusa-adorned breastplate. The engraving is rich in neoclassical detail and artistic strength, capturing the intensity and authority of a Roman emperor.
Size 11.5x16.5 cm
