A finely engraved portrait of Henri II de Lorraine (1563–1624), Marquis de Pont-à-Mousson and later Duke of Lorraine (1608–1624). Shown in elaborate Renaissance attire with lace collar and richly decorated doublet, set within an inscribed oval border reading: “HENRY PRINCE DE LORRAINE MARQVIS DV PONT.”
Below the portrait is a French quatrain extolling his noble lineage and virtues. At lower right appears the publisher’s credit: “Paul de la Houve excud.” Paul de la Houve was a Parisian publisher active in the late 16th–early 17th century, renowned for engraved portrait series of European royalty and aristocracy.
This engraving likely dates from the early 17th century or from a later 17th/18th century impression after the original plate.
An elegant and historic portrait of a prominent French nobleman, highly collectible for those interested in the House of Lorraine and European dynastic history.
