Blue crayon on paper, framed and glazed in gilt moulding with cream mount.
A charming original working drawing by Ernest Howard Shepard, the celebrated illustrator whose images of Christopher Robin and Winnie-the-Pooh became inseparable from A. A. Milne’s beloved stories. The sketch depicts Christopher Robin seen from behind, wearing his distinctive round hat and carrying a satchel, with Winnie-the-Pooh crouching beside him in a pose of gentle companionship. Executed in Shepard’s characteristic blue pencil, the drawing retains registration punch holes along the lower edge and manuscript annotations to the upper and lower right corners, consistent with original production material.
Shepard’s original drawings for the Pooh canon rank among the most collectible works in British illustrated literature. Preparatory material of this nature rarely appears on the open market, making this an exceptional opportunity for the serious collector.
